About
Speakeasy Comedy
Mission
At Speakeasy Comedy DSM, our mission is to bring unforgettable, high-quality stand up comedy to the heart of Iowa.
Founded by comedian Matt Banwart, this pop-up comedy club creates a unique night-out experience! Combining nationally touring headliners with the intimacy and charm of unexpected venues across the Des Moines area.
We’re passionate about spotlighting the amazing local businesses that host our shows, supporting the community while having fun. Even if you haven’t heard of one of our headliners, take a chance! You might just catch a rising star before the rest of the country does. On every headlining show, we have made sure to list a clip of the comedians’ stand up, so you can check them out before the show.
With relatively low expenses, we’re able to pay comedians a significantly higher cut of the door than chain clubs. That way, you can still see some of the biggest names in comedy, but in a more personal and intimate setting.
Rooted in Iowa and built for an adventurous night out, Speakeasy Comedy DSM aims to make Des Moines a destination for both comics and comedy fans alike. Whether it’s your first show or your fifth, we want each night to feel fresh, memorable, and full of surprises.
